Dogspots App
Dog owners want to do the right thing but are often left wondering whether they allowed with their dogs when travelling around New Zealand. I developed a solution that provides quick & easy to comprehend information for dog owners that gives them peace of mind. This self-managed project was developed within my Master’s of Design course at Media Design School Auckland.
Goal
Dog owners need a way to quickly access reliable information about where they can and can’t take their dog, so that they are confident and relaxed when travelling non-local.
A mobile app that focuses specifically on dog-friendly outdoor activities & prohibited areas, providing up to date and verified information.
Approach
- Content survey with 78 NZ dog owners
- Market analysis
- User Persona & Empathy Map
- Journey Map & User Stories
- Card sort & Sitemap
- User Flows
- Wireframing & Prototyping
- Usability Testing
Solution
Few dog-friendly location apps or websites exist in the New Zealand market, with regional council websites offering confusing and hard-to-understand information. Paw Planet, a major competitor, launched its first version in 2020. Analyzing Paw Planet's strengths and weaknesses provided insights for a more targeted solution. A card sort with 7 participants helped in creating an intuitive navigation and information architecture. Initial testing with low-fidelity design screens assessed user ease of use, followed by further testing with 170 out of 239 participants on higher-fidelity screens.
